Norton Packaging
Boyle Avenue
Vernon, CA
CAG was retained to provide design, entitlement and A&E construction document services for Norton Packaging’s new facility in Vernon. The design was a phased master plan for a 100,000 square foot facility,
Phase I build out in 2001 included 38,000 of manufacturing, warehouse and two-story corporate offices.
Phase II build out in 2006 addressed a 28,000 square foot expansion for additional manufacturing and warehouse.
Unique Project Feature – The phased building expansions that were part of Norton Packaging’s business plan required our team to think through this aspect and deliver a design for the first and second phases that could be added to in the future without substantial demolition and reconstruction costs for future phases. The solution implemented for this was to design only the fixed walls with concrete precast walls and the future demolition wall (the wall in the pathway of expansion) with a chevron shear element that anticipated present and future tributary roof diaphragm loads and a removable and re-useable metal wall frame with a removable non-shear exterior metal skin.
Cost of Construction: $3.5mil Phases I & II
